Two Kinds of Writers

There are two kinds of writers.

Those who write, and learn to write better; and those who think they'll learn to write, and then write better. The latter keeps thinking forever, stuck in a swamp of hopeful validation and perfection. The first kind is focused on progress, learning, improving the craft, and working on themselves every single day. They are highly practical and tactical in approach.

Shed the aspiring writer tag and be an actual writer. There's nothing to aspire here. All you need to do is literally the most basic thing you can and should do as a writer. Write. You have to take action and you become one. The aspirants seek validation that doesn't come, and even if it comes, you're writing for other people. First learn to write for yourself, by yourself, and for yourself. It's just like thinking for yourself. You don't need permission or validation. Be the first kind, where you respect your goals and dreams of writing by taking action.

The world will discover you, if you have the courage to first discover yourself.

Just write, then ship. It's as simple as that.

Three simple rules to become a writer.

  1. Don't ask permission
  2. Write everyday
  3. Don't follow rules

The first rule builds the right mindset, the second rule builds your craft, and the third rule is a reminder that you don't need any rules in the first place.

Write!
