The Great Pivot
"You cannot step twice into the same river." — Heraclitus
I think this decade is the the decade of great pivots. This applies for businesses as well as individuals.Well, I am no astrologer or a futurist, but I think we're already seeing a significant shift in the world mindset in terms of adopting AI, preparing ourselves, and moving on to the next frontier. The old ways of work are being questioned, challenged, and reimagined by fast moving businesses, leaders, and ambitious individuals.
The great pivot is not just about AI, it's about embracing this as an opportunity and finding a new meaning in life for individuals and companies alike who are in search for a new vision. The old ways are more or less obsolete now, except for the core fundamentals of values, ethics, and our foundational legal frameworks. The current sentiment is all defaults are questionable. It's first principles all over again, if you actually put this in perspective. It's new opportunity!
For millenials, it's about time to pivot and prepare for the second innings. For baby boomers, it's the last window to pivot or perish. (Well, who am I to put a celiging on a generation's potential, but age is an irrefutable factor.) I think it's a great opportunity for boomers to leverage age and step into roles where they can share their life experiences and mentor the newer generations with their wisdom and lessons from the trenches. For example: YouTube is the perfect platform for someone who is close to retirement age, share the wisdom and lessons from the trenches.
The same applies to millenials as well, and of course with the unique flair we have in life, where we balance both traditional and progressive perspectives, appealing to both older and newer generations.
Whether you like it or not, the great pivot is happening as we speak. The World Economic Forum and several other institutions have data around how jobs and companies are changing.
Look around yourself. How many people have the same job, they had 10 years back? How many do you think will have the same job after 5 or 10 years? What about yours? How many people are exploring new career choices after the pandemic? How many businesses are running the same business models you experienced in the last decade?
Technology is changing super fast, and we need to embrace this pace and leverage the presented opportunity. It's just not about change, it's about finding new meaning in life and pursuing your dreams in the new era.
I think this decade is the last window for the old ways. The next decade will write it's own story.
